Ministry of Weather says “NO” to eclipse

No Eclipse for Shanghai

The Ministry of Weather, after being snubbed by its request that the moon not eclipse the sun, had ordered a rainstorm over Shanghai for the morning of July 22nd. At around 5am this morning, the storm clouds moved in as requested, blocking out the view Shanghai would’ve had of the historic Astronomical event.

Anonymous sources inside the Ministry has stated that the “harmonious, stable and strong China cannot allow such an event to occur, lest it show that China is under the influence of extra-terrestrial powers.” The ministry also stated emphatically that “There shall be no eclipse as long as Kirk lives!” It is currently unknown as to who “Kirk” is.

When asked why the storm didn’t affect other parts of the country, the Li TianQi, the Ministor of Weather, issued the following statement:

We are baffled as to why the moon hasn’t withdrawn from the sky, and have since sent notice for the moon to justify its actions. The Ministry of Weather is righteous in its request. Its non-compliance can only be seen as a slap to the face of all Chinese. We’ll be looking into taking further actions against the moon.

Other sources state that reasoning behind this decision is not fully known, but it’s speculated that the Vice-Minister, Li TianQi had contacted the moon to “stay clear of the sun” as he and the Minister had boating and fishing plans that day.

When interviewed about whether or not the moon can be swayed to stay clear, the sun simply said, “BOOM! CRACK! SSSSSSSSS!“. The moon had no comment.

In other news, the Ministry of Time may had indeed discovered time zones, but the related documents had been misplaced somewhere on Lower Tongren Road.

Finally got my Drivers Licence last Friday!

After all that I had to put up with getting it, I finally walked out of Building 8 in Xinzhuang with Drivers Licence in hand!

chinalicence

I went back last Friday for the final time, to take my test. I looked into the office and did NOT see the “Copy!” girl in sight! Yes! I won’t go to jail for manslaughter today! After waiting there for about a half an hour, talking to a Belgian guy who apparently doesn’t HAVE to take the test, I took mine, scoring 93 out of 100, and…

She walked in. Damnit!

I waited an additional 10 minutes in line, praying I wouldn’t end up in her line.  It didn’t work.  It was my turn, and she was free.

I gave her my paperwork, she looked at it, looked at me… and smiled!  I’m thinking, what the hell?  I hate you! Don’t you hate me too?

Of course not.  She doesn’t read my blog.

She stamped away, gave me my papers, sent me downstairs to pay another 55 RMB, and wait for the card’s lamination.

While waiting for my licence, I began thinking… Was I too harsh on her?  Did I perhaps get a little carried away last two times I met her?  Perhaps she truly IS a decent person and I’m simply overreacting.  I could’ve had a “This is China” day.

Then I realized something.  NO ONE ASKED ME FOR MY PASSPORT A SINGLE TIME!

New Star Trek Movie!

There’s a bit of information floating around now regarding the new Star Trek movie, slated for December 25th of this year. At the official movie site, the trailer, currently showing with “Cloverleaf” is now up on the site, and will soon be available for iPhone & iTunes.

Also, a bit of “Viral Marketing” happening at http://www.ncc-1701.com. Currently it shows 3 out of 4 working cameras, showing the construction of the Enterprise.

I’m not one for Star Trek fansites or message boards, but some of the reactions I’ve read to the viral site suggests that some die hard trekkies are already hating the movie. “They show welding. Why don’t we call it, Star Trek: The Welding Frontier” or “3 out of 4 broken cameras. Terrible.” Someone seems to think they’re real cameras apparently. This I don’t understand. They wish death upon something they don’t even have a clue about. Why?

I can see a trend on the viral Star Trek site. For the next several months, on ncc-1701.com we’ll see the U.S.S. Enterprise slowly being built during the next year or so, and a final completion on or around Christmas. Perhaps during summer, they’ll be working on the warp nacelles or deflector dish. Perhaps launching sections into space for more assembly. After all, it’s meant to be viral marketing, right? Certainly can’t have welders there for the entire year.

I’ll post more as I learn it. Hopefully, Paramount accepts my app as “press” and sends me more details to release to the general public!

Here’s a movie poster released about a year ago.
